Before by Bob Atkinsona

(c)2011 Bob Atkinson

he sat out his later years
a quiet, peaceful man
telling those around him
had always been like that

serious though he might seem
about his early life
no thunder could be louder
than his bark as well as bite

now, as you look at him
a slow and peaceful man
you think he could be useful
with a broom and large dust pan

yet when the fires raged
and the bullets zipped right by
he had been light on his feet
and with his fellows very sly

so when you see a stranger
don't put him in a hole
that may not fit his way of life
or, the way he was so long ago
