Purpose - by Bob Atkinson

Purpose
(c)2013 Bob Atkinson

strangers arrived one morning
a different breed of cat
upon their lorries burdened
crates of this and that

they circled these old wagons
hired locals to give a yell
when anyone entered the compound
who wasn't invited there

they hired some to ring a bell
when strangers entered quietly
and nobody yelled as instructed
derelict in their most good duties

they hired more and gave them horns
to sound when strangers came
and nobody rang their bell
as at first had been arranged

they hired some to scream out loud
when no horns could be heard
when strangers entered compounds
as this situation they had observed

all labor paid with bounty from
trucks contained in those wooden crates
flour, dry meat and cooking oils
all sorts of goods and grains

when the crates were empty
when those bins lacked food
the strangers packed up quickly
waved goodbye and left for good

they were so quiet nobody
noticed what they wanted
just thought about the process
of organizing groups for progress
