Interdependence - by Bob Atkinson

(c)2015 Bob Atkinson

how many times have we heard
someone in a moment blurt
out that saying of ancient lies
"I'm independent of personal ties"

to say one stands apart from friends
from connection to another's ends
says quite a lot in attitude
but holds not water of solitude

think about this friend of mine
start with clothing the Nike kind
how many shirts do you possess
which were made by your handiness

how many meals have you consumed
with butchered cows that you produced
how many grains have you grown
how many veggies brought from seed to home

that tar roof over your head
which protects you from winter's cold
or rains of summer splashing down
sun burning on your wrinkled crown

was put there by your acceptance of
dependent need, dependent love
where people banded together for
group production and ancient lore
