Composition of Poetry - by - Bob Atkinson

Composition of Poetry
(c)2016 Bob Atkinson

consider if you will
a desire ingrained in man
to write something of value
to share with all who can

enjoy a sonnet or limerick
or merely carpe diem
payback for life’s good graces
odes meant to portray love’s stages

easier, have always said
to criticize than do yourself
a simple trick of nature
that backward flip of pen

requires no thought within
nothing creative in a way
which wanders ever toward a goal
or separates milk from cream

but here where I have a goal
to guide us in our quest
must forever tell you truth
when seen without request

so hold on to your baseball cap
strap your seatbelt fast
settle in for a ride
which may or may not last

for I believe if written well
we’ll see our words survive
this turmoil of our times
taken well in stride
